There is a single Percy Bacon window in St Martin's; of three-lights and simple tracery. The lights contain a single standing figure, each exquisitely painted, the outer two being firmly East Anglian, while the centre light depicts the patron of the church, St Martin of Tours.
St Edmund, King and Martyr:
Depicted as
King of the East Angles, he is crowned, and holds a sceptre in his left hand and arrows, being the symbol and method of his martyrdom in his right. Above him a scroll ; "Arrows in the hand of a mighty man."
St Martin of Tours:
He is depicted as the Bishop of Tours, mitred and holding a crozier in his left hand and a sword in his right.
Within the pedestal on which he stands a shield in garter bearing the words: "Verbum caro factum est."
St Felix: First Bishop of the East Angles:
He is depicted as the First Bishop of the East Angles, and holds a crozier and a model of a church. Above him the scroll reads; "He which converteth shall save a soul from death."
As always the detail is impressive. The inscription with a rather curious self dedication reads:
The window is signed, "PERCY BACON, LONDON".
St Edmund and St Felix are also portrayed in nearby St Matthew's, Ipswich.
