St Peter's was built in 1894 by George Fellowes-Prynne. It is an exuberant example of Prynne's work, with much of the stained glass having been designed by his brother, Edward, who seems to have planned a complete series for the church.1 However, a great deal of those designs were not executed until after the turn of the century, with the last as late as 1932. It is not clear whether the single Percy Bacon work was part of the original scheme, but The Builder article of 31st July 1897 recorded the window as the, "First of a series for the whole windows." 2

The windows are typical of Percy Bacon's output in the first decade of the firm's existence, with the scenes enclosed in elaborate architectonic niches with wide columns of white and yellow stained glass. The dedication reads:

"To the Glory of God and in memory of William Stapleton Trollope who fell asleep Sep 30th 1895"

The window is signed with the Bacon Shield rebus.
